Pre-Wedding Experiences

How/where did you get engaged?

We got engaged at the dog beach at New Smyrna. We had planned a mini-vacation at the beach for a few days and brought our boat with us. That evening, we got takeout from our favorite New Smyrna sushi spot and were planning on cruising down the intercoastal at sunset for a date night on the boat. Afterwards, we were planning on taking the boat bar-hopping on the intercostal, so he convinced me to get dressed up. Drew suggested that we take the boat up to the dog beach and walk around the dog beach. Little did I know, he had hired a photographer who was already there. When we got to the dog beach, he got down on one knee and popped the question!

What are you most excited about for your wedding day?

We are most excited to have all of our friends and family in one place to celebrate with us!

What aspect are you excited to plan the most? (ceremony, food & beverages, photographer, DJ)

We love to eat, so we are most excited to finalize the menus for dinner and dessert!

Wedding Planning

How do you feel the planning is going?

Planning is going really well! We are both project managers for work, so planning things is what we do best! I know a lot of people talk about the wedding planning process being daunting, but that has not been our experience. Early on in the wedding planning process, Drew and I decided to dedicate Wednesday evenings after work to wedding planning. We usually enjoy a couple of glasses of wine while going over details and picking things. It’s been a great way to enjoy this time together and make sure we both agree on all of the decisions when it comes to decor, etc.

What have you found to be more difficult than you expected?

One of the things that has caught us by surprise is the music list from the DJ. Although Drew and I have attended many weddings as guests, we never really realized how many decisions there are when it comes to music. Shortly after selecting our DJ, he sent over a several-page-long document where we have to specify what song we want played as the groomsmen walk out for the ceremony, what song we want played when we cut the cake, what song we want played when the wedding party enters the reception, etc. I’m so appreciative that our DJ is so detail-oriented and wants to make sure the music is exactly what we want, but it’s a lot to think about and so much harder than I thought it would be!

What has been more fun about the process than you expected?

Drew and I have a few friends who are also getting married this year. I’ve really enjoyed getting to share this special time with them. We often have Facetime calls about where we are in the planning process. Getting to talk to our friends about what color bridesmaid dresses they chose, what they are doing for table centerpieces, etc., has been really fun.

Wedding Day

What was the best, most memorable part of your big day?

Getting to see all of our friends and family in one place.

If you could change one or two things about your event, what would they be?

We wish we could have had longer to party with everyone.

Is there any advice you would give other couples planning their event that you wish someone had told you?

Enjoy the wedding planning process, and know that it will all be worth it in the end!
